The Lord’s Prayer is not as Selfish as Yours

 

Ever notice how most people, when they pray, pray for self-seeking things like more money, victory over haters, better jobs, love and marriage, etc. Compare that to the Lord’s prayer. Right off the bat, Jesus honors the Almighty Heavenly Father, calling His name holy. He asks for God’s kingdom to come, and for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Jesus shows us that we must humble ourselves and recognize our Heavenly Father first, before asking for anything else. After that, Jesus asks for the bare necessities of life, nothing fancy. He then asks God to forgive his sin, to help him avoid evil and temptations, not focused on hating enemies at all. He then wraps up by once again paying homage to the power and authority of our Heavenly Father. Why did Jesus pray this way? Of course, it was an example for us to follow. But also, He wanted us to focus on the basics of life, and the other things that come will follow naturally without having to ask. That is what faith is all about…
